Oconee County police blotter
The Oconee County Sheriff's Office reported the following incidents:
Forgery: On April 25, deputy Jason Lowe met with a resident of Salem Road who reported that some checks were stolen from his home. He said six checks were forged and cashed for $640. He named a possible suspect.
Arrest: On April 26, Cpl. Bryan Yoder was dispatched to a problem on Cherokee Circle about 2:30 a.m. When he arrived, Yoder saw two men in the frontyard and he could hear them arguing. One man said he came to the house after learning that his mother and stepmother were in a dispute that started at Locos Grill & Pub in Athens. Yoder told the stepfather, Robert W. Bagley, 40, he needed to leave so he could sober up, but he became agitated and started using profanity toward Yoder. Yoder tested the man's alcohol level and because of the reading, he told Bagley he couldn't drive. However, when Bagley began walking away, Yoder arrested him for public drunkenness.

Teller in theft faces deportation
An Athens bank teller remains in jail nearly three weeks after he allegedly took $17,000 from the Watkinsville bank where he worked and put the cash outside for a friend to pick up, while the friend authorities say he was trying to help remains at large.
Francisco Benitez Santos, 21, is held at the Oconee County jail because he hasn't posted a $25,000 bond set in the case and because he was on probation, said Oconee Sheriff's Lt. David Kilpatrick.
But federal immigration officers also have a hold on Santo; the 2004 Clarke Central High School graduate now faces deportation, Kilpatrick said.

Berry: Thefts likely related
Oconee County investigators think the same thieves might have hit neighboring stores on Epps Bridge Parkway in bold, smash-and-grab robberies over the past two weeks, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said.
"Of course, that's a theory we're working under," Berry said. The break-ins netted watches and computer equipment valued at nearly $27,000.
Commercial burglaries are rare in Oconee County, Berry said, and he has put a high priority on solving the crimes.
